Tips and suggestions when administering epinephrine

  • If you forget the procedure, take time to read the instructions on the auto-injector. Then proceed calmly.
  • Auto-injectors are designed to penetrate through one layer of clothing. They should not be used through seams or pockets of jeans, or thick outer clothing material.
  • If necessary, support or brace the pupil's leg to reduce movement.
  • Make sure that the needle end of the auto-injector is going into the thigh.
  • If you inject accidentally into a finger, hand or thumb, get medical attention once the pupil experiencing a reaction has been properly responded to.
